The double ended scaler is used to remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surface, above the gum. It works well in tight occlusal spaces.
Instructions for use:
iM3 Winged Elevators
Warning, do not use these winged elevators with a lever action. The 1 & 2mm elevators are very fine and will break if excessive force or a lever action is used. The primary function of winged elevators is to sever the periodontal ligament and expand the alveolus (Tooth socket).
We recommend the elevator tip is moved down the tooth root in a rolling fashion. The winged elevator is then rotated (the wings provide extra leverage) and pressure applied for approximately 10-20 seconds to fatigue the periodontal ligament, causing hemorrhaging to occur inside the periodontal pocket. The hemorrhaging will apply additional pressure to the ligament and aid in the loosening of the tooth. Like any instrument, winged elevators can become dull and require regular sharpening. A sharpening stone specifically designed for hand instruments is available from iM3.
iM3 Luxators
iM3 Luxators, sizes 1-5mm are very fine and sharp. The 5 sizes are suitable for
both Canine and Feline teeth.
Luxators are used for cutting the periodontal ligament and expanding the
alveolus (tooth Socket) by inserting the instrument tip into the periodontal space
with a gentle side to side rocking motion continuing down the length of the root.
Luxator tips are extremely fine and sharp and can be easily damaged if used as
an elevator. The tip is not designed for the extra force used with elevation.
iM3 recommends winged elevators for elevating a tooth to be extracted.
Luxators and elevators should be sharpened daily using the iM3 wedge dental
sharpening stone:
